Goodbye GR Brew Tour

10 breweries in 12 hours is my way of saying goodbye to the city of so many memories… Most of them including beer. Gav and Linz hit the house around 2 and we headed straight to Founders for our first pint of the day. I went for a red’s rye.

Being the good friend that I am, I got Gav a Bolt Cutter…

From there we headed out to Hudsonville to check out two new brew pubs out there… First we hit Pike 51.

Sharing the bar with the wine tasters of hudsonville winery, It’s a nice little spot with a lot of excellent brews on tap.

I went with the black light and was very pleased with this lager… I was impressed by how many lagers they had on.

Next we went across the street to White Flame.

This place was very cool. Chill atmosphere and great beers. They had a mandolin hanging on the wall and let me play it which made my day. No food.there, so we ordered in. Loved the logo…

After a quick trip accross M6, we hit Jaden James which is inside cascade winery.

Good little place and you can taste the passion for quality after one sip. Extra likes… The cider, the home brew store, and the spirited conversation about beer city USA and the future of grand rapids brews… It was a good stop.

10 down Patterson and we were sitting in Schmohz Brewery.

I’ve always liked this place. The location is where my introduction to craft beer happened in 1996 when it was Robert Thomas. Now its great… Jim and Chaz are always around to make you feel welcomed… The tap room is chill with free pool and pingpong and the beers are all decent… I love it because its the kind of spot that I do if I decided to open a little brewery… It’s like your hanging in a friend’s basement man cave… And I love it.

Next stop was Harmony.

A new addition to the gr beer scene, harmony, has a couple barrel system and wood fired pizza. I like their rye PA.

Up lake and we strolled into Brewery Vivant for some Big Red Coq and Duck confit nachos…. Amazing.

Headed downtown to check out Hop Cat… It’s a well known beer bar, but also a noteworthy brewery.

image

One block away and we hit the newest kid on the block, the recently restored GRBC… And let me tell you, this place it going to make some waves…

image

Great beer, great location, tons of room for the thousands of people who will be there waiting for the show to start at Van Andel Arena.

We went to the Bob, but they were going to charge us a cover for no reason… So we headed back to Founders to finish up the tour. It was a great ride and I thoroughly enjoyed all of the friends that popped in along the way. Thanks everyone! Tons of fun!

I’m going to miss you guys.
